This High Quality luopan, also known as the jiang pan (after Jiang Da Hong) or the Yi Pan (because of the presence of I Ching trigrams) incorporates many formulas used in San Yuan (Three Cycles). It contains one 24-direction ring, known as the Earth Plate Correct Needle, the ring for the 64 trigrams, and others. (The techniques grouped under the name "Flying Stars" are an example of San Yuan methods.)
A luopan does not point to the north pole of Earth. The needle of a luopan points to the south geographic pole. The Chinese word compass translates to ?pointing-south needle.?
Some of the key features that we may want to consider when selecting a good compass are:
1. Magnetic needle quality - this is the most important feature as the accuracy of feng shui readings depends on the quality of needle. Our manufacturer uses the best type of stainless steel metal to make their needle. Its magnetic field is very strong and the reliability ever-lasting.
2. The quality of base wood - a good and everlasting luopan is made from strongwood with fine grains.
3. Excellent metal piece with engraved rings of the feng shui system - it must be absolutedly made from stainless metal that lasts, else corrosion may occur easily. Ours is made from copper-nickel.
4. Accuracy of partitions - every single degree counts. Our compass has a very strict specification on partitions and degree readings within every ring.
5. Surface finishing of the whole compass - a good one will have good surface finish.
6. The number of rings - the number of rings would depend on one's feng shui knowledge depth. The more advance the master is, the more rings they seek to go after. But it is hard to find many experience masters in the world who understand beyond 10 rings.
